The following is a description that I wrote several years ago for my ButteCounty.Com web site before I moved to North Dakota.
"It's always a pleasure to mingle with the sellers and shoppers at any of the Farmers' Markets in Butte County. Whether you're in Chico, Paradise, Oroville, or Gridley, you'll find a homey, friendly atmosphere. If you're from Butte County, you'll most likely meet some of your friends and neighbors there...strolling among the booths, picking out fresh fruits and vegetables, sampling the freshly baked breads and bagels, and enjoying the fine arts and crafts.
If you like gardening, you'll find some of the nicest looking plants in Butte County, ready to go home with you to give you months and years of enjoyment. Or, if you like freshly cut flowers for your home, there are no flowers more beautiful or as reasonably priced as the ones from our Farmer's Market friends.
So, bring your family and friends for a delightful shopping experience. See some of Butte County's finest produce and products...and enjoy the wonderful flavors of the season. "
One of my favorite trips almost every week was to visit the Saturday morning farmers market in Chico. The fresh flowers were absolutely glorious, and big bunches of them seemed to make their way home with me every weekend. Also, my mouth absolutely drools when I think about the fresh bread, pastries, jams, and yummmmm.... summer sausage... one of my favorites. Oh, and the fruits and vegetables... just picked and ready to take home... the best flavors you could ever wish for, and packed full of natural, healthy vitamins that you can't even begin to hope for in a can or even at the best supermarkets.
When my friends in North Dakota ask me what I miss most about California, farmers market is right at the top of my list. The sad thing is... at the time I lived in Butte County, I just took the whole experience for granted. It was so easy to run to any of the farmers markets in Butte...Chico, Paradise, Oroville... at practically all seasons of the year...and find wonderful produce in season. Now, in North Dakota, we have about 5-6 inches of snow outside my door with 5-6 feet piles of snow along the roads, and planting season for flowers and vegetables doesn't safely begin till sometime near the end of May. ....Sigh..... I keep trying to tell myself that family is more important than produce, that playing with our three new North Dakota baby relatives is more fun than picking out the perfect bouquet of flowers at farmers market... but, sometimes... when cabin fever sets in, and I start to reminisce about Spring in Butte County, I wonder about some of my choices in life.

Butte County, California, Attractions
Hello, Everyone!
I suppose I could be speaking not only to Butte County residents, but to people from all over the world, so I guess I should give some background information about our county. For the past 12 years I've been having fun with a web site which I created called ButteCounty.Com. It's a guide to a county in Northern California which I think is absolutely beautiful... rolling hills, an expansive river valley, sturdy oaks and majestic pines, fascinating rock formations, a mini-Grand Canyon, a magnificent lake (Oroville), as well as a variety of other waterways that permeate the whole area. The Sacramento River, Feather River, Butte Creek and Chico Creek run right through Butte County and give endless pleasure to the people who live there and to the multitude of people who like to visit.
All kinds of special events take place during the year that attract visitors to Butte County from all over the country: Gold Nugget and Johnny Appleseed Days in Paradise; Feather Fiesta Days in Oroville; Red Suspender Days in Gridley; the Silver Dollar Fair and Artoberfest in Chico... just to mention a few out of many, many other special events.
Actually, the local university, CSU-Chico, could keep a person completely entertained throughout the year with its wide variety of plays, sports, concerts, lectures, art shows, recreational activities, and numerous other offerings. Well-known personalities from all over the world come there to perform, lecture, give educational workshops and teach classes.
For people who like history, there are all kinds of interesting places to see in Butte County: Bidwell Mansion; Chico Museum; Gold Nugget Museum in Paradise; the Ishi Monument in Oroville; the Chinese Temple; Oroville Dam; the Feather River Fish Hatchery and more...
Instead of going on and on about the wonders of Butte County, myself, what I would really like is to have other people tell about their favorite places and enjoyable times they've had there. I think ButteCounty.Com would really benefit from having a variety of personalities expressing themselves about the area.
I'm definitely new at blogging, so bear with me until I figure out how this whole thing works! In the meantime, if you're reading this, I hope you will choose a topic to share with the rest of our readers. Thanks for sharing, and have fun!
